Welcome to the memorial page for

Michael Allan Sachs

December 7, 1944 ~ June 8, 2019 (age 74)

Michael Allan Sachs, 74, died on June 8, 2019 at Duke Raleigh after a 3-year battle with cancer with his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Jean by his side.

Michael was born on December 7, 1944 in Madison, Wisconsin to Melvin and Sylvia Sachs.  He attended Ohio University where he studied business before enlisting in the United States Navy.  He married Mary Jean in 1968.  After settling in Virginia Beach, Michael began working in the grocery business for 40 years where he touched the lives of many people with his gentle and happy approach to life. Over the next eightyears, the couple welcomed two children, David and Jason.  During their treasured 50 years together, Michael and Mary Jean shared a love of travel, cooking, and gardening. They cherished every moment and selflessly loved and supported each other.Michael’s children remember him as a kind, compassionate, patient, loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.  Michael always saw the good in people and greeted everyone with a smile.  He was ready to listen if you needed him and would only offer advice if you asked for it.

Michael, affectionately known to those closest to him as “Pip”, was a loving grandfather to Benjamin, Isabelle, Liam and Piper. Michael would take the grandchildren out for dinner, ice cream, Carolina Hurricane games and in the summer would give the children a bucket and they would pick vegetables together from his garden. Michael was a proud, smiling PaPa from the sidelines of soccer games, basketball and baseball games.

A funeral is scheduled for 1:00 PM, June 18, 2019 at Rachels Family Funeral Home (formerly known as Williford Funeral Home) at 201 East Academy St. Fuquay Varina, NC 27526. Pastor Jim Littleton and Rabbi Seth Klauman will officiate the ceremony.
